The University of Kentucky offers a number of resources for student financial aid. Visit the Student Financial Aid website for a complete guide to what's available and how to apply.
Scholarships are mainly for upper-level students, juniors and seniors enrolled in the professional nursing program. There are a few scholarships available for sophomores but none for incoming pre-nursing freshmen. Click here to view all of the College of Nursing scholarship descriptions.
Monday, March 2, 2020, is the deadline to apply for a 2020-21 academic year (Fall 2020, Spring 2021) College of Nursing undergraduate scholarship.
How to Apply
Applicants must meet the minimum requirements for admission to the College of Nursing and be in good academic standing. Priority in awarding scholarship funds is given to those students who have high financial need. They are awarded for one academic year and disbursed in equal amounts in the fall and spring semesters unless otherwise stated in the award letter. If the recipient will be graduating in December 2020, the award will be for the fall semester only.
Complete the 2020-21 College of Nursing Undergraduate Scholarship Application if you are requesting aid for the Fall 2020 through Spring 2021 academic year and are one of the following:
- Professional nursing student currently taking NUR courses at UK, including students who will graduate in December 2020
- UK pre-nursing major who has not yet been accepted to the professional nursing program but will be submitting an admission application by March 1, 2020
- Second Degree BSN student, entering student or applicant
- RN-BSN student, entering student or applicant
- MedVet-BSN student, entering student or applicant
- Transfer student who has applied for admission to UK by March 1, 2020, and is being considered for admission to the professional nursing program
- LPN-BSN student, entering student or applicant
Most scholarships are renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the terms of the scholarship and makes reasonable academic progress. Click here for UK’s Reasonable Academic Progress Policy. Even if the scholarship is renewable, students must apply annually for continued support. Some scholarships have minimum GPA requirements. Any student who fails to maintain the minimum GPA will be ineligible to have the scholarship renewed.
To be considered, students must complete the 2020-21 College of Nursing undergraduate scholarship application, which is online through Qualtrics, and submit all required attachments and the optional ones they choose to complete.
Please note: Qualtrics uses a cookie to save your responses. If you exit the survey early, you must come back to the same computer and use the same browser to complete the application.
Your application will not be reviewed unless you have:
- Completed the online Qualtrics application AND
- Sent all required and optional attachments to the College of Nursing by Monday, March 2, 2020. Attachments may be dropped off at Brittany Fiero's office, 315-M, UK College of Nursing administrative suite, College of Nursing Building or mailed to:
UK College of Nursing
315M College of Nursing Bldg.
Lexington, KY 40536-0232
If mailed, the packet must be postmarked by Monday, March 2, 2020. Due to the volume of attachments received, we do not accept attachments submitted via email. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure all attachments are received by the College of Nursing. Applications will be reviewed for any other UK College of Nursing undergraduate scholarships that may become available after the deadline.
The College of Nursing Scholarship Committee reviews all completed applications and attachments postmarked by the Monday, March 2, 2020, deadline. Applicants are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The average award is $1,000-$2,000, and both the scholarships and amounts available to award vary from year to year. The scholarship amount, when added to other sources of financial aid, may not exceed the total annual cost of attendance as determined by the UK Office of Student Financial Aid.
Award recipients and non-recipients will be notified in June or July before the new academic year begins via mail and/or email. All recipients must complete a Scholarship Acceptance Form by the deadline listed to confirm acceptance of the award or forfeit their scholarship.
The College adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Hosted annually by the College of Nursing, this event provides an opportunity for donors and their families to meet the recipients of the scholarships they have established. All scholarship award recipients are expected to attend.
Academic Excellence Scholarships
Funds are received from the UK Office of Academic Scholarships for these scholarships. All students are automatically considered for an Academic Excellence Scholarship when they complete the College of Nursing Undergraduate Scholarship Application and attachments.
