The University Senate has developed a Code of Faculty Responsibilities in Senate Rule 7.0. Below are some highlights related to students:
- Students should be able to meet with their instructors for advising and other conferences; most faculty will post office hours and allow students to schedule an appointment at mutually convenient times.
- Instructors should return, discuss with, or make available all papers, quizzes and examinations to students within a reasonable period of time. If an examination is not returned to the students, the instructor will provide students with an opportunity to view the exam.
- Students should be informed when their individual or collective efforts are to be used for professional or personal advancement of a faculty member, or if students are to be used as a research subject in a research study.
- Faculty should arrange for appropriate interaction and communication in the direction of graduate students' theses.
