Visitor Parking Areas on Campus

Parking Meters

  • Purpose: The time limits for campus parking meters are either 45 minutes or 3 hours. Forty-five minute meters are designed to allow short term parking for visitors, employees and students. These meters are not intended for students to attend class, or for employees to park while at work. Parking and Transportation Services recognizes that longer visitor parking options are sometimes needed; three-hour meters are located in areas of campus where business may take longer than 45 minutes and where quick turnover of parking spaces is not crucial.
  • All campus parking meters are black, and are located on University streets or in University lots.

Time Limits & Hours of Control

  • Over 200 meters are located across campus.
  • All parking meters accept nickels, dimes and quarters, allowing for three minutes, six minutes, and 15 minutes, respectively.
  • Located on each meter post is the days and times the meter is on control, the meter’s maximum time limit, and other important information.
  • The practice of “meter feeding” – inserting additional money to go over the stated maximum time limit – is prohibited and strictly enforced.
  • Parking is not allowed on a non-functioning meter during its hours and days of control.

Service Areas

If you need to load or unload large or heavy items, you should request a SERVICE PERMIT that will allow your vehicle to stand in any yellow-and-white striped area for up to 45 minutes for purposes of loading or unloading only. After that time, your vehicle must be moved to a regular parking area or parking meter.

Special Event Parking

The high volume of vehicles and the limited number of parking spaces on campus result in constant requests by permit holders for enforcement of the parking regulations. If you park in any lot without a valid permit, you risk being ticketed or towed.
