In 2014...

We received funding from the CDC to reduce colorectal cancer among residents of the Kentucky River Health District and other rural communities in Appalachia. Our research team will compare a community-level FIT intervention in the Kentucky River Area Development District (KRADD) to the standard use of FIT in a similar district called the Cumberland Valley Area Development District (CVADD). Local Health Departments in each district will be given FIT kits to distribute to people ages 50 to 75 who have not been screened for colon cancer.

The project has been responsible for multiple people in Eastern Kentucky being screened for colorectal cancer and, in some cases, even saving lives.
