We are excited to announce a unique project designed to provide additional fitness rack options for reservation at the Johnson Center!

In collaboration with PLAE, a leader in performance flooring and equipment, a one-of-a-kind racquetball conversion has been designed to transition racquetball court 4 into a fitness space with six individual stations equipped with PLAE Achieve Flooring and PLAE ICONx customized racks. The University of Kentucky will be the first recreation department to receive the PLAE ICONx rack system! Stations will be available for reservation in late 2022.




All stations will be identical, which will allow the user to have the same experience regardless of the reserved rack. The ICONx racks were customized to maximize versatility while minimizing the footprint of the equipment. Each rack station will include:

  • Open platform area to allow for pulling and Olympic lifting movements
  • Half rack with safety catch options for a wide range of barbell movements
  • Adjustable bench that, when not in use, can be stowed vertically inside the rack to maximize space 
  • Adjustable pulley to allow for cable movements 
  • Powerblock dumbbells with weights from 0 to 90lbs 
  • Kettlebells in 26lbs, 35lbs, 44lbs, and 53lbs 

The space will also include additional multi-purpose barbells and other accessories to support programming. 



How Do I Reserve a Rack Station?  

Reservations will be available using the RecWell Services Portal under the Reservations tab. Racks will be available for reservations in 50 minute increments beginning at the top of each hour. Participants that reserve racks gain access to the reserved station 5 minutes before the reservation starts for set up. Unused reservations will remain on hold until 10 minutes after the reservation start time. If a rack is open and not reserved, it will be available for open recreation usage until the next reserved time. Additional reservation procedures will be added soon.
