Comfortable Non-Insecticidal Clothing to Protect Farm Workers and Foresters from Mosquitos and Ticks

Completed Pilot Project

The goal of this work is to research the benefits and capabilities of applying 3-D spacer fabric knitting technologies to the production of bite-resistant fabrics for protecting agricultural workers. To achieve the ultimate goal, this project will 1. Evaluate the bite resistance, durability and comfort performance of fabrics currently used in agricultural worker protective clothing; 2. Utilize their model to select candidate fabric structures with improved bite resistance, durability and comfort; 3. Procure or produce candidate fabrics, characterize their performance and demonstrate feasibility for incorporation in chemical-free bite-resistant agricultural worker garments.
