Does wood pellet heat reduce ammonia exposures to farmworkers in poultry houses?

Completed Pilot Project

The goal of this project is to characterize differences between airborne ammonia concentrations in poultry houses using wood pellet furnaces compared with propane fuel furnaces. Results from this pilot study will be used to support a larger study to examine the indoor air quality in poultry houses related to use of wood pellet fuel compared with propane fuel. All findings from this pilot will be communicated to the public, with special attention to farm workers and operators at the Western NC sites included in our study
