Pick Your Path: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., various locations

Pick Your Path is a day set aside during K Week for you to spend time getting to know more about some of UK’s wonderful campus resources. Today you get to decide what you want to learn more about. Pick up to four different paths throughout the day; you’ll meet new people around campus, get free stuff, and learn more about UK. Explore BBNvolved for information on all the paths available today. Pick Your Path: FUSION Day of Service, 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Gatton Student Center Ballroom

  • Each year during K Week, FUSION plays a vital role in welcoming new students to UK and returning students back to campus. FUSION emphasizes and strengthens the mutually beneficial relationship between the university and its community by uniting the students, staff, and faculty of UK in an effort to provide over 1600 hours of service from approximately 800 participants in one day. Community service sites include American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, Maker's Mark Secretariat Center, Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning, and many more! FUSION starts at 8 a.m. with registration, a light breakfast, and opening ceremony. Transportation will be provided to and from all service sites that are not within walking distance. Volunteers should expect to participate in at least 2 hours of community service. All groups should be back on campus by 12:30 p.m. Please note that all volunteers are expected to wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that they do not mind getting dirty. FUSION is a great way to make a direct positive impact on the local community, meet new people, and build your resume! 

Pick Your Path: Coffee & Study Break Walking Tour, 9 - 10:30 a.m., Starbucks in William T. Young Library

  • There are tons of great places within walking distance of campus to grab a cup of joe and hit the books! Enjoy free samples and giveaways as we visit a few of the best coffee and study spots both on and off campus. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and attire for walking. This event is weather dependent and will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. 

Pick Your Path: Get Out of Your Bubble! , 9 - 10:30 a.m., MLK Center Multipurpose Room (in Gatton Student Center)

  • Get Out of Your Bubble is a game-show style program (with PRIZES) designed to show participants a range of cultural identities and experiences that make up a much more holistic look at what we call "diversity." This isn't just another diversity training; this is a GAME SHOW WITH PRIZES!!! Get Out of Your Bubble is a fun and fast-paced way to open yourself up to new ways of seeing and celebrating differences and connections. Through jokes, PRIZES, and facts, the show gives students the tools to understand cultural difference and maximize their potential in a changing world. Did we mention PRIZES?? 

Pick Your Path: Hike - Meditate - Connect, 9 - 10:30 a.m., UK Arboretum

  • Enjoy a hike through the Arboretum followed by a guided mindfulness session. Learn more about Koru Mindfulness and Meditation and how nine simple skills can help you reduce stress and anxiety while helping you sleep better and increase self-compassion. The Arboretum is located at 500 Alumni Drive and free parking is available. Those wishing to use campus buses can find more information here. If you're planning on taking the bus, be sure to allow at least 30 minutes to arrive at the Arboretum by 9 a.m.! Meet in front of the Arboretum Visitor Center. 

Pick Your Path: Hiking at Raven Run, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Johnson Center

  • Get to know some of your fellow students while exploring one of the most scenic natural areas Lexington has to offer. Raven Run is home to many miles of quiet trails that wander through the woods of the Bluegrass to several scenic overlooks where you will observe features such as the Kentucky River and several small waterfalls. We will meet at the Johnson Recreation Center and drive to Raven Run as a group. Transportation is provided but participants will need to dress for the weather, wear hiking-appropriate footwear (closed-toe boots or shoes), and bring a small backpack to carry personal items and at least 1 liter of water with them. We also recommend that students bring rain gear (even if it's not in the forecast), sunglasses, bug spray, and sunscreen on this outing. The hiking will total around 3 miles on varying and occasionally steep terrain. This activity will require a moderate level of physical fitness.

Pick Your Path: iPad Tips and Tricks for Taking Better Notes and Creating Awesome Presentations, 9 - 10:30 a.m., 191 Gatton College of Business and Economics 

  • Come see how the Apple Platform for Learning can help you be more creative, take better notes, and create amazing presentations. There will also be time for open Q & A surrounding all things iPad. Presenter provided by Apple: Dr. Charles Long.

Pick Your Path: Puppies, Police, and Prizes, 9 - 10:30 a.m., 330C Gatton Student Center

  • UK Police Community Services Officers will present information to students regarding the protection of themselves and their personal property, crime awareness, emergency procedures, and police resources. You will also have a chance to meet therapy dog Hudson!

Pick Your Path: Yoga for Y'all, 9 - 10:30 a.m., Alumni Gym Studios

  • Wake up your senses with a yoga class made for (Y)ALL fitness levels! Learn about wellness resources on campus while practicing stress reduction techniques for the school year.

Pick Your Path: Volunteer Fair, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Gatton Student Center Social Staircase

  • The Center for Community Outreach is pleased to be hosting its second annual Volunteer Fair during K Week! Fashioned much like an open house, students are welcome to come and go while browsing a collection of partners from around the Lexington-Fayette community. Feel free to join us from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. to begin your service journey in your new home away from home. Free snacks, drinks, and prizes will all be available! 

Pick Your Path: Buses & Burritos on a Budget, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., 302 Patterson Hall

  • Learn how to use the public transportation system as well as financial tips and tricks college students need to know! Play a few games in the Office of Financial Wellness before hopping a bus to Target. Return to campus for a stop at Patterson Hall to make your own burritos.

Pick Your Path: Making a MAJOR Decision, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Stuckert Career Center

  • Exploration during your college years is both necessary and encouraged. Whether you have selected a MAJOR, have one in mind, or don’t know where to start, it’s hard to know if you are making the right choice for YOU. Join us to learn about how the Stuckert Career Center encourages and guides exploration here at UK. We will help you begin the process and provide you with tools and an action plan to help you find the major and career that is right for YOU.

Pick Your Path: Self-Care: Monday thru Sundae, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Frazee Hall

  • Come to this program to enjoy 7 (one for each day of the week) fun-filled activities focusing on different strategies for self-care while at UK! A few of the activities include meditation, creating a stress ball, sitting in a massage chair, designing a terrarium, and building your own sundae! Added bonuses—you’ll meet some fellow first-years and learn about some resources in Frazee Hall to help you maintain your self-care over the year. All activities will take place in and around Frazee Hall. Make sure you sign up as spaces are limited! Check-in will begin on the first floor of Frazee Hall.

Pick Your Path: Succeeding in a Large Lecture Classroom, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., 107 TH Morgan Biological Science Building

  • Are you taking a 100-level math or science course this fall? Many of these courses are scheduled in large lecture classrooms with 200+ students. In this session, you will discover how to make the most of your academic experience in a large classroom. We’ll discuss the difference between high school and college courses, how to form a good relationship with your instructor, and best practices for success before, during, and after class. Gain insider tips for success from current instructors as well as academic coaches.

Pick Your Path: Trivia - Are You Smarter Than a Librarian?, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., William T. Young Library Basement (The Hub)

  • Test your trivia skills against our Subject Librarians. Featuring categories like Young Adult Series: Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Divergent, etc.; UK Athletics; Billboard Hot 100: "Who Wrote this Lyric"; and general pop culture. Bring a friend, make a team, and try to stump us! Pizza and prizes provided.

Pick Your Path: UK Extended - Campus Engagement for Off-Campus/Commuter Students, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., The Study North (lower level of Jewell Hall)

  • This workshop will provide new undergraduate students living off campus with the opportunity to connect to campus resources and community services and nurture belongingness and connection to the institution.

  • Learn tips and tricks for academic success from some of UK’s best and brightest students.

Pick Your Path: Candy, Coffee, Condoms, 1 - 2:30 p.m., Memorial Hall

  • University Health Service and the Sexperts will present information to students by utilizing a fun, interactive game. There will also be an opportunity for students to ask questions. Get free coffee, candy, and sexual health resources!

  • Begin your journey as a well Wildcat and learn about all Campus Recreation and Wellness has to offer including a sampler of group fitness classes (yoga, PiYo, and cardio), interactive wellness activities, and Q&A's from all of our departments! Make sure to wear close-toed athletic shoes, bring water, and meet in the upstairs fitness studios!

Pick Your Path: Sustainability - Protecting People, Prosperity, and the Planet, 3 - 4:30 p.m., 119 Patterson Hall

  • Sustainability is a core value for the university and there are lots of meaningful ways to engage. There are majors, minors, undergraduate research opportunities, student organizations, internships, and more. This PYP session will provide a roadmap for these options as well as info on what UK is doing to promote a culture of sustainability on campus. UK frames sustainability as the integration of ecological integrity, equality, and social justice with economic vitality.

  • This session is targeted at helping first-generation students understand how to best navigate the college experience. Receive advice on how to talk to professors and other authority figures, cultivate relationships, advocate for yourself, and pursue new and interesting opportunities you might not know exist.

K Team Dinner: 6 - 8 p.m. 

  • All new students will meet with their K Teams for dinner and good conversation. Check with your K Crew leader to find out where to meet. Attendance will be taken. Sponsored by K Week. 

Campus Ruckus: 8 - 11 p.m., Pieratt Fields

  • What a better way to kick off the new school year than with SAB? Join us at our annual back-to-school bash as we showcase many of the numerous organizations on campus with a night full of free food, free fun, and fireworks! We'll have a variety of inflatables available, and each organization will have a cool carnival game prepared to break the ice with new students. Sponsored by Student Activities Board. 

Midnight Dodgeball: 11 p.m. – 1 a.m. , Johnson Center

  • Don't miss the University Club Dodgeball Team's annual Midnight Dodgeball! Club members will demonstrate the rules of the game as well as referee multiple courts of dodgeball. Come ready to play! Sponsored by UK Club Dodgeball.
