Parents and Families
K Week is August 21-25, 2019!
K Week, UK’s fall welcome week, is five days of events and activities designed to help ease the social and academic transition to the University of Kentucky for new students and families.
It’s an easy way to meet new people! New students attend events with their assigned small groups, known as K Teams.
It’s the best place to get free stuff, free t-shirts, free food, and more!
It’s easy to customize your experience. There are a few key events that all new students are expected to attend; otherwise, students can pick and choose events that work best for them.
It’s the best place to get the inside scoop about academic success and expectations.
It’s an efficient way to learn about UK’s campus and resources available to you and your student.
It’s the easiest way to meet faculty and staff.
It’s a great way to support your student as they start their college journey.
You’re part of the Wildcat family, too!

UK Parents and Families Reception
Wednesday, August 21, 7 - 9 p.m., Gatton Student Center
The UK Parent and Family Association is hosting an informal reception while students participate in their first K Team meeting. Meet and mingle with UK administrators, faculty, staff, and fellow UK families. Light refreshments will be provided. Knowing that this can be a stressful time of year, massage therapists will be on hand providing short, free chair massages. Participate in Letters from Home; write a letter to your new UK student, and the Parent and Family Association will deliver it a few weeks into the fall semester. President Eli Capilouto will greet parents and families during the reception. A parking shuttle will run from the Gatton Student Center to K Lot from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
New Student Induction Ceremony
Thursday, August 22, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., Memorial Coliseum
Students, family members, and guests are invited to join President Eli Capliouto and other members of the university community to commemorate the start of a new school year. Watch with pride as your new student officially becomes a part of the Wildcat community at the New Student Induction Ceremony. This event will be live-streamed online for families who are unable to attend. Student-only K Week activities begin the afternoon of Thursday, August 22, following the ceremony. A limited amount of free parking is available in the Gatton Student Center visitor parking lot across from Memorial Coliseum; additional free parking is available in the South Limestone Garage (Parking Structure #5). If the garage is full, free parking will be available in the Scott Street lots nearby; it will not be controlled for employee permits during the ceremony. Families and guests are encouraged to allow ample time to find parking and make their way to Memorial Coliseum that morning. Students will be sitting with their K Teams; families and guests are welcome to sit anywhere in the stands to view the ceremony.
All K Week events are on UK’s campus. Free parking will be available. For more information, visit www.uky.edu/transportation/.

Missing part of K Week?
While we encourage all families of new students to take part in K Week, we understand that some may not be able to do so. If that is the case for your family, rest assured that your new student won't have to attend K Week events alone. Students will attend some K Week events with their K Teams, and residence hall staff often accompany groups of students to K Week events. Whether you are able to come to K Week or not, encourage your new Wildcat to attend as much as possible for the free food, free t-shirts, giveaways, and wonderful information to assist in the transition to life as a UK student!
