Things to consider when making plans to visit UK for Family Weekend:
Book your hotel as soon as possible. You can expect hotels to fill up quickly and hotel rates to increase during busy football game weekends.
Tickets to UK Parent and Family Association Family Weekend events were previously scheduled to go on sale at noon on June 15. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, ticket sales have been postponed until the fall. More information about event tickets will be available later this summer at www.uky.edu/familyweekend. Football tickets typically go on sale through UK Athletics in July.
If you can’t come to UK’s Family Weekend but want assistance making plans to visit at another time, reach out to the Parent and Family Association. Our staff loves to talk about our favorite things in Lexington and around campus, so we’d be happy to offer you guidance as you make plans! Call us at 859-257-2752, email us at email@example.com, or message us through our Facebook page. If you want to connect with other UK families and hear about their favorite things to do, post to the UK Wildcat Families Facebook group.
Most Family Weekend events will begin after 7 p.m. on Friday, September 25, and end after lunch on Sunday, September 27. Families typically arrive on campus on Friday in the late afternoon to spend a couple of hours visiting their student, going to dinner, or making a quick Kroger run before the Family Weekend festivities begin.
The Family Weekend schedule of events changes every year and is typically available in late summer at www.uky.edu/familyweekend. Family Weekend is designed to give families a variety of events and activities to choose from. Do not try to do everything on the schedule. Select events that are of interest to your family.
Talk to your student early about their schedule during Family Weekend. Some clubs and organizations schedule events for their members during Family Weekend that could conflict with major events. Be sure you communicate about expectations for the weekend before you arrive.
Parking on all parts of campus during football game weekends can be difficult if you do not make a plan early. You should plan to be parked on campus at least a few hours before kick-off. SEC football kick-off times may not be available until 7-10 days before the game. Plan to have a flexible gameday schedule. Consider using the game day shuttle service or ride share options. More information about shuttles will be available in the fall.
Make a flexible plan for your weekend that fits your family’s interests before you arrive. If this will be your first Family Weekend at UK, here is a tentative sample schedule that may work for your family:
Friday, September 25
(2 p.m. – 4 p.m.) Arrive in Lexington to check in to your hotel and pick up your student.
(4 p.m. – 7 p.m.) Spend some family time with your student.
(7 p.m. – 10 p.m.) Family Weekend events and activities on campus begin.
Saturday, September 26
(Morning) Arrive to campus and park your car. We recommend not moving your car after it has been parked on campus. Have breakfast with your student and participate in Family Weekend activities.
(Afternoon) Attend the Family Weekend Tent Party on Pieratt Fields 3 hours before kick-off and then attend the UK football game. If college athletics is not your family’s thing, this may be a great time to explore Lexington. VisitLex has a great “Idea Guide” of fun things to do in the area.
(Evening) We recommend that you leave this time open in case the game runs long or has a later kick-off time.
Sunday, September 27
(10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) Attend the annual Family Weekend brunch at historic Spindletop Hall, or visit one of Lexington’s wonderful brunch spots on your own. Other Family Weekend activities may be available on campus during this time as well.
