Visiting Lexington
As part of its unique charm, Lexington’s streets and roads are occasionally known to change names without warning or be known by multiple names. For example, a main thoroughfare on the UK campus is South Limestone Street; however, as you drive away from downtown Lexington, South Limestone suddenly becomes Nicholasville Road at Cooper Drive (in the stadium area). Additionally, Euclid Avenue is home to UK’s North Campus residence halls, the Gatton Student Center, and Memorial Coliseum; it is also known as and often referred to as the Avenue of Champions. Fortunately, you’ll find that UK’s residents and Lexingtonians are very friendly and would be happy to point you in the right direction.
Airports
Flying into Lexington is a unique experience since Blue Grass Airport is located among beautiful horse farms and historic Keeneland Race Course. The airport is approximately a 15-minute drive from campus. UK does not offer regular transportation to and from the airport, although special shuttles are offered prior to major campus breaks and holiday and the Lextran buses will be running as well.
Other major airports are located in Louisville and Cincinnati (each approximately a 90-minute drive from Lexington). UK does not currently offer transportation to either of these airports. Students who chose to fly in and out of these airports typically find rides from roommates or friends; some even use local car services, taxi cabs, or Lyft.
Mailing to the Residence Halls
Want to mail your student living on campus a letter or package? At the bottom of each residence hall information page, you’ll find a mailing address for that particular hall. Residence halls may receive mail from all mailing services including U.S. Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, etc.
Letters will be delivered to the residence hall and placed in student mailboxes by the residence hall front desk staff.
Packages will be delivered to the residence hall front desk and will need to be picked up by the student. The residence hall front desk staff may or may not notify your student of a package delivery. If you mailed a package and have not heard of its delivery, you may call the residence hall front desk staff, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., to check on its whereabouts. We encourage you to also keep a tracking number for all packages. If your tracking information indicates that a package has been delivered but it is not at your students’ residence hall front desk, please notify UK Police at 859-257-UKPD (8573).
