UK 101 & UK 201

The mission of the UK 101 and UK 201 courses is to help new students transition to university life, build a strong foundation of academic success, embrace opportunities to promote intellectual and personal growth, and foster a sense of belonging and community.

This course is designed to guide undergraduate students in adjusting to the academic, social, and cultural life of the University of Kentucky. Transitioning from high school to college is challenging for many reasons, so UK 101 is here to teach students the skills and knowledge they need to be successful students. In UK 101 we aim to support your development as a successful student by focusing on: 

  • Your growth as a learner

  • Your emotional and social wellbeing

  • Your engagement with our diverse community

UK 101 is a 1 credit hour course. Please contact your advisor if you are interested in enrolling in UK 101.  UK 201 is designed to support transfer students connect with one another and adjust to life as a Wildcat.  Please contact your advisor if you are interested in enrolling in UK 201.  

Course Instruction

Primary instructors for UK 101 and UK 201 are experienced faculty and staff at the University of Kentucky with a rich understanding of first year student experiences and a passion for supporting students' individual success.

Peer Instructors

Course instruction is led by  primary Instructors and Peer Instructors. Peer Instructors are undergraduate students who recently successfully completed UK 101 or UK 201 and have now taken on this leadership role in order to support other first year students’ successful transition to UK. Peer Instructors will aid in facilitating lessons, activities in class, and assistance in completing assignments. They will also hold weekly study sessions to support the development of study groups amongst UK 101 and Uk 201 students.
