Out-of-State Student Field Placement Information

State professional licensure boards may have additional requirements or restrictions on student field placements, including:

  • Healthcare clinicals
  • Practicums
  • Internships
  • Student Teaching

Even if UK is authorized or exempt from authorization to provide distance education another state, there may be limitations for whether they are able to complete their student field placement in that state. State professional licensure boards may require certain supervisor qualifications, program applications for approval, fees, etc. in order for a student to complete a student field placement. Some states licensure boards completely prohibit students enrolled in out-of-state programs from completing student field placements.

Therefore, programs should always check state information before placing a student in that state. The dashboard below shows state licensure board information, general authorization status, and student field placement information for each state and program. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are also included. Please note that while UK Distance Learning reviews this information annually, programs are ultimately responsible for knowing and meeting all state and state licensure board requirements before placing a student in a state or U.S. territory outside of Kentucky.

UK Distance Learning has prioritized its research where students are currently or have recently been located. If you do not see information for a given program and state and wish to place a student there, please contact Distance Learning at distancelearning@uky.edu and UK Distance Learning will research that information.
