FAQs - Big Blue Cycles

Big Blue Cycles sounds like a really neat program. What’s the catch?

No catch. All you need to do to be eligible is to be a current UK or BCTC student, live in UK housing, and be willing to sign a car-free commitment. If you receive a Big Blue Cycle, you will be required to participate in a bike education class and sign a liability waiver that includes details of your financial responsibility should the bicycle be lost or damaged due to your negligence.

How does the selection process work?

Just sign up at www.uky.edu/transportation/wildcatwheels, starting on Friday, March 9, 2018. If the number of students interested exceeds the number of bikes in the fleet, a drawing will be done to determine who receives the bikes. Students who had a 2017-2018 vehicle parking permit will be given first consideration.

What happens if I change my mind and decide that I need a motor vehicle in Lexington? How does that work?

The Big Blue Cycle program is a year-long commitment to be car-free. Returns will be considered on a case-by-case basis only. If you believe that the use of a motor vehicle will be beneficial to you at some point during the academic year, the Wildcat Wheels Bicycle Library semester-long check-out program may be a better fit for your needs.

My bike was stolen. What should I do?

If your bicycle is stolen, you will need to file a police report immediately and email wildcatwheels@gmail.com within 24 hours to explain what happened.

If your bicycle was properly locked up with the WWBL-issued lock, you will not be financially liable for the cost of replacement. If the bicycle was unsecured at the time it was stolen or was locked up with a non-WWBL issued lock, you will receive an invoice for the cost of replacement of the bicycle.
