Green Route Service Hours to Change
Beginning Monday, Jan. 10, the campus Green Route will have new hours of service.
Service will remain unchanged from 6:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. After 10 p.m., riders will now be able to request On Demand Service for transportation to and from the West Blue Lot Shelter at Kroger Field and their residence in Greg Page or Shawneetown.
On-Demand Service can be requested by calling 859-257-RIDE (7433).
The Green Route provides transportation between Greg Page and Shawneetown apartments and the West Blue Lot Bus Shelter with connectivity to and from the broader campus via the campus Blue and White Routes. The Blue and White Routes are in service from 6:45 a.m. until midnight Monday through Friday.
“We’re implementing this change in an effort to balance efficiency and responsiveness,” said Lance Broeking, Director of UK Transportation Services. “We're currently providing transportation to fewer than two riders per hour after 10 p.m. Switching to on-demand service after 10 p.m. will allow us to personalize the service for the small number of residents who rely on this service while also being good stewards of University resources.”
The On-Demand Service is already in operation on campus after midnight. Offering this service two hours earlier for Greg Page and Shawneetown residents and their guests is designed to ensure that transportation remains as responsive, if not more so, than the traditional fixed route service. One added benefit is that riders will be able to be picked up from and dropped off at their desired building, rather than a traditional Green Route bus stop.
“We think this change will result in a more satisfactory experience for Green Route riders after 10 p.m.,” said Broeking. “Of course, we’ll continue to monitor the service to make sure it continues to meet the needs of our riders.”
Please note that the Green Route will operate on a modified “limited” schedule of 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday Dec. 20 through Thursday, Dec. 23, and again from January 3 through Friday, Jan. 7. Green, Blue or White Route service will not operate from Friday, Dec. 24 through Sunday, Jan. 2.
Full Green Route service – with the new hours of operation – will resume on Monday, Jan. 10.
