Parking & Transportation Changes Over Winter Break
Campus parking control and bus services change significantly during the break between fall and spring semesters. UK Transportation Services takes a number of parking areas off control during portions of winter break. Campus bus service also operates on a modified schedule.
Please see below for detailed parking and transportation-related changes during winter break.
UK Employee Parking Lots & Structures
In general, all employee lots remain on control for permits, with the exception of December 23 through January 1.
Student Parking Lots & Structures
The Kroger Field student periphery (K) lots (Blue, Red, College Way East & West and Wildcat Court) and most student residential lots will not be controlled for permits during portions of winter break, with the exception of the Seminary area residential lots (R29 & R30), the Wildcat Coal Lodge Lot (R17) and the German House area (R18). For a detailed schedule of parking control dates, visit our permit & control calendar.
Students with a valid UK permit are allowed to leave their vehicles parked in the periphery lots over winter break. As an alternative, Transportation Services is offering free holiday passes for students who have a valid UK permit and wish to relocate their vehicles to the South Limestone Garage (PS #5) -- a covered parking structure -- during the break. These free passes are available beginning on Monday, Dec. 16, and can be picked up at the Transportation Services’ customer service centers in the Press Avenue Garage (PS #6) or the South Limestone Garage (PS #5). The passes can be used for the fourth floor of the parking structure and above. If you wish to use a holiday pass, please be prepared to tell staff the make & model number of your vehicle.
UK HealthCare Parking Structures
With the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day, there are no changes to UK HealthCare policy which restricts employee parking in UK HealthCare patient/visitor parking garages and lots. Attendants will not be on duty on December 25 or January 1. To ensure adequate parking for patients and visitors, employees are encouraged to use the Kentucky Clinic Parking Garage (PS #3) on those days instead of the UK HealthCare Garage (PS #8).

It will run from 5:30 a.m. to midnight on December 23, 24, 26-27 and on December 30 and 31, but will operate with a reduced fleet consisting of two buses in the morning and two in the afternoon and evening, due to lower demand and less traffic congestion during this period.
The Orange Route will return to normal service beginning on Thursday, Jan. 2.
UK HealthCare’s patient/visitor shuttle between the UK HealthCare Garage and Pav A and Pav H will operate on a normal schedule every day, Sunday through Saturday, from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. The patient/visitor shuttle that operates between the UK HealthCare Garage and the Kentucky Clinic will not operate on Christmas and New Year’s Day but will run a normal schedule all other days, Monday through Friday.
UK HealthCare shuttle service from Pav A to Good Samaritan Hospital will not be in service on Christmas or New Year’s Day, but will otherwise run a normal schedule all other days, Monday through Friday.
On-Demand Night Bus
The On-Demand Night Bus will not operate December 23 through January 1. Service will resume on Thursday, January 2.
The last day of Kentucky Wildcab service for the fall semester will be Saturday, Dec. 14. Kentucky Wildcab will resume its normal Thursday through Saturday schedule beginning on Thursday, Jan. 16.
In addition, the CE Barnhart building will be closed throughout winter break for security purposes. Therefore, the pedway over Cooper Drive will be inaccessible beginning 6 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2019. The normal schedule for the pedway will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. Personnel who typically use the pedway are encouraged to use the Orange Route shuttle or the underpass via the pedestrian walk along Veteran’s Drive during this time.
