CASE tool:

Objectives:

To develop an appreciation for the strategic values of information systems and the challenges involved in information systems development.  Topics to be included are as follows:

(1)     Basic concepts of information systems analysis and design;

(2)     Critical success factors of a system analyst;

(3)     System development approaches. This includes SDLC, OOAD, RAD;

(4)     Issues involved in implementing and maintaining information systems;  

(5)     Hands-on experience with a CASE tool (BriefCASE or Visible Analyst) for the planning, analysis and design phases of systems development;

(6)  Hands-on experience with VBA for systems implementation.

 

 

Assignments:

There will be assignments involving the use of the CASE tool, VBA, written assignments and a group project.  Details of these assignments will be announced in class with at least one week's notice.

 

 

Late Policy:

Assignments submitted after the due date will be penalized 10% per day.

 

 

Exams:

There will be one mid-term exam.
