Juglans major [Juglandaceae]

This is a picturesque tree with a broad crown and an attractive silhouette. The wood is valued for its color and durability.

Leaf: Pinnately compound oblong to lanceolate leaf about 12-14", having 9-13 (sometimes more) leaflets ca. 4" in lenght. Leaflets are sessile and finely serrated

Twig: Leaf scars are distinctive, bearing three U-shaped bundle scars. The pith is chambered and darklly colored.

Flower: Monoecious. Staminate as an ament with 8-40 members, pistillate in spikes of 2-8 flowers with a 2-celled ovary.

Fruit: A drupe-like nut (1-1.5" long) protected by an indehiscent husk.
