CACTI
Stem-succulent plants for they store their water in succulent, fleshy stems.

Saguaro, Carnegiea gigantea.

Teddy-bear cholla cactus, Opuntia bigelovii. Fragments of the stem (joints) break off to produce a fragment that adheres to moving animals or is transported by gravity.  Enables highly success asexual reproduction.

Chain-fruit cholla, Opuntia fulgida. Cholla cacti have jointed stems and glochids-much like pricly-pear cacti, but the stems are clylindrical rather than flattened.

Hedgehog cactus, Echinocereus spp. Characterized by a dense covering of spines (resemblance to a sea urchid).  Commonly occurrence as a cluster of stems.

Barrel cactus, Ferocactus (derived from the latin: ferus-meaning wild or ferocious) in reference to the fierse spines.
