Dr. Bardo is a Professor of Psychology
at the University of Kentucky. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology at Iowa State University in 1980 and received postdoctoral training in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Iowa from 1980-82. He has been funded continuously by NIDA for over 30 years, has published over 200 research articles, and has served as primary mentor for 14 postdoctoral scholars, 18 PhD students, and over 150 undergraduates. His current laboratory is primarily interested in understanding the basic neuropharmacological mechanisms that underlie drug abuse. A major focus of our work is aimed at determining the impact of environmental factors and social processes during development on the behavioral effects of drugs of abuse, with particular emphasis on stimulants such as cocaine and opiates such as fentanyl. More recently, the laboratory is also examining excessive alcohol drinking. An additional reserach interest is the development of novel medications for the treatment of methamphetamine abuse.
