Shattered Dreams continued
When they announced who advanced to finals I was happy to hear our name, we had achieved what we set out to do and even an injury hadn’t stopped us. We went on to finals and surpassed everyone’s expectations including our coaches. We had performed our routine the best we had ever done it, even before Leslie got hurt. For the first time I heard my coach tell us “Good job, you all looked great out there,” she said, she was actually proud of us. Competing in front of millions of people being tapped by ESPN, it was an adrenalin rush and we deserved every minute in the spotlight. Perry County Central was 13th in the nation, we beat
nearly 50
squads. We may not have won but in our hearts we had, we overcame obstacles and
in the end became a closer squad. I have learned to never give up and always
strive to reach my goals. I hope in a way I inspired my team to not give up as
well. We were a family and it was hard to let go of people who I was around
more than my own family. They were my sisters and they taught me a lot, we
learnt a lot from each other and at the end of the year we left a cheerleading
legacy that would be hard to beat. Looking back on the year I remember a cheer
we used to say “Ain’t Nobody Like Perry Central, P-C,”
and that is the truth we were a unique squad, untouchable and champions in our
own rights www.varsity.com/images/upload/competition/2002/nhscc/albums/www_sat/1/3.jpg
