COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To introduce students to basic management principles, concepts, and practices. You will be introduced to a universal management process that can be used in any type of organization and at every level of within an organization. You will also be introduced to various problem solving and decision-making techniques and tools. Current issues and trends will be integrated throughout the course. This course promotes teamwork and integrate management into the service learning concept. Also, this course will promote a proactive teaching style.
COURSE PREREQUISIT: BE 160 (INTRO TO BUS).
REQUIRED TEXT:
Introduction to Management (Sixth Edition) by Plunkett and Attner.
METHODOLOGY:
This course will consist of lectures, classroom discussions, and case assignments. Other materials such as videos, outside reading, etc., will also be included in this course. Group work and class discussions will be emphasized. This course will emphasize proactive teaching and teamwork.
ATTENDANCE:
Regular and prompt attendance is required in this class, just as it is in the business community. Students who are absent will miss class participation, attendance, and assignment points.
MAKE-UP POLICY:
There will be no make-ups of any kind. All assignments and exams must be taken at the time and date they are scheduled. Only excused students (excused by the professor) can turn in late assignments. The excuses are given only in emergency conditions and all excuses must be obtained from the professor prior to the assignment due date.
ASSIGNMENTS:
All assignments must be professionally completed and turned in on the due date. The assignments must be typed. Late assignments will be penalized three pts a day.

* Students have the option to participate in a group management service project or a group fund raising management project or an individual research paper project.

405-450 A 90-100%
360-404 B 80-89%
315-359 C 70-79%
270-314 D 60-69%
BELOW 270 E BELOW 60%
WITHDRWAL POLICY:
Last day to withdraw and receive a grade of "W" is March 5, 1999. Students withdrawing after March 5th will risk the chance of receiving an "E" for the course. The professor has the discretion to grant a grade of "W" or "E" to those withdrawing after the mentioned date.
CLASS EVALUATIONS:
In order to continuously improve the quality of instruction and to deliver the best service to you, your ideas, suggestions, opinions, and concerns are welcomed at all time. However, you are required to turn in a typed evaluation twice a semester to insure and improve quality. Your comments are due before mid-term and following the second exam. I appreciate your participation in improving the quality of education. It is your choice whether to include your name or not on the evaluations.
No eating, sleeping, or chewing tobacco is allowed in the classroom. Drinks are allowed but you are responsible for your mess.
