Course Objectives
The student should gain an understanding of
the field of management, including its development, areas of focus, and
terminology. This basic understanding will serve different purposes for
different students. For students majoring in business fields, the class will
serve as a springboard for other classes. For students not majoring in business
a basic understanding of the management field will provide a framework for
developing managerial skills and competencies necessary in the
"real-world" in fields ranging from corporate
Exams and Activities
There will be two exams during the semester.
Exams are not comprehensive. Each exam will be worth 100 points. NO MAKE-UP
EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN.
During the course of the semester there will
be at least seven in class written activities. These activities
will be administered randomly throughout the semester and the will be NO MAKE-UP
ACTIVITIES. However, grades will be based on the student’s five best
scores. Material for the activities may include, but are not limited to class
lecture, the book, the syllabus, videos, & presentations. For this reason
it is recommended that each student bring their book and syllabus to class
every day.
Students will present a group project to the
class in groups of no more than 4 students. This presentation will be worth 50
points and cover a chapter from the text.
Class Etiquette
Although it violates school policy, I do not
mind non-alcoholic drinks in class. On occasion we will have food as a class,
otherwise please refrain from bringing snacks to class. Do not use phones,
pagers, or headphones in class. Anyone using a phone during class will be asked
to leave and not return until the next class period. Reading the Kernel or any
other paper during class is prohibited. Children are wonderful, but they do not
add much to our class discussion. Therefore please refrain from babysitting in
class. Use common courtesy in the classroom.
Disabilities
Students with disabilities should advise the
instructor of any special needs. Disabilities will be accommodated in
accordance with university policy.
