Yield Loss Prediction Tool for Field-Specific Risk Management of Asian Soybean Rust

Project Updates - Brazil March 2006

Brazil - March, 2006 (Saratha Kumudini) - Project Update

In March 2006, Dr. Saratha Kumudini traveled to Brazil to assist in the experiment and to transport the GreenSeeker equipment necessary for obtaining NDVI data. The crop was at the R5 stage of development at that time. Asian soybean rust was first reported to have hit this field just before R1. Below is an image of rows of soybeans at the R5 stage of development. The rows on the right were protected with fungicide starting at the R2 stage of development, the plants on the row to the left were unprotected and had been infected since prior to first flower (R1).

The second image is of the Embrapa soja research crew taking GreenSeeker measurements over the field plots at the R5 stage of development.
