Environmental
Awards Available
Each year, the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsors the President's
Environmental Youth Awards (PEYA). Since 1971, this awards program
has recognized young people across America who have created projects
that demonstrate a commitment to the environment. Young people
around the country are invited to participate in the program by
submitting a project that benefits the environment. Each year the
PEYA program honors a wide variety of environmental projects
developed by individual youth, school classes (kindergarten through
high school), summer camps, public interest groups, and youth
organizations to promote environmental awareness.
The projects can relate to a wide range of
topics including recycling programs in schools and communities;
construction of nature preserves; major tree planting programs;
media/videos, and newsletters created by students focusing on
environmental issues; and environmental science projects. In
order to be eligible, a student or students, sponsored by an
adult, must submit the details of their project, along with a
completed application to their local EPA regional office. The
deadline is December 31. For more information about the awards,

Pay It Forward Foundation Youth Service Awards
The Pay It Forward Foundation
was established to inspire students to get involved around the
world, and to provide them with opportunities to create
innovative projects. Pay It Forward Mini-Grants are designed to
fund one-time service-oriented projects that are identified by
youth as activities they would like to perform to benefit their
school, neighborhood, or greater community. Schools, churches,
and community youth groups (with an adult sponsor) in the U.S.
and Canada may apply for funding. Application deadlines are
September 15 and February 15 of each year. Download an
