Giant Foxtail : Kentucky IPM

Green Foxtail (Setaria viridis)

Foxtails are warm-season annual grasses. The ligules of foxtails are hairy. The mature seed head, which resembles a fox's tail, gives rise to the name of this group of weeds.

Green foxtail is glabrous except for a hairy margin near the collar where the leaf blade connects with the leaf sheath.

Other foxtails found in Kentucky include yellow foxtail (Setaria glauca) and giant foxtail (Setaria faberi).
