Scout Info Kentucky IPM Pest Information Pages Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) Henbit is a cool-season annual broadleaf weed with round cotyledons. The leaves are oppositely arranged on branching stems. They are round in shape with toothed margins. The leaves have pubescence on both upper and lower surfaces. Stems are square. Found along roadsides and in gardens and pastures, henbit can be difficult to distinguish from red (purple) deadnettle, another winter annual weed. Purple deadnettle (Lamium purpureum) differs from henbit in that its uppermost leaves tend to be reflexed downward and occur on petioles.
