In Fall 2012, the University of Kentucky retained a national consultant, Envision Strategies, which was charged with developing a master plan for dining services on campus. As UK moves forward with re-building and expanding our residence hall system, it's important that we plan for where dining halls will have to be moved and new ones located. Institutions provide dining services differently across the country. There's not one system that works for everyone. Our job is to determine what works best for the University of Kentucky.
The University issued a request for information (RFI) in mid-February 2013 and received responses on March 12, 2013. Our existing dining services operation developed a RFI proposal, which was fully evaluated and considered, to continue providing dining services in-house.
The RFI provided the university the opportunity to gather more in-depth information about potential business partners in order to make a fully informed decision about whether such an option is the best one for the university. The RFI taskforce recommended on March 29, 2013 that the University move forward with issuing a formal Request for Proposal (RFP).
A RFP will be released the week of September 9, 2013.
The Dining RFP evaluation committee -- composed of administrators, staff and student representation -- will be reviewing the RFP responses submitted by interested third parties.
