with Your Employees

Managers are often hesitant to discuss career issues with employees, thinking they will be expected to be ‘career counselors’ or that coaching might enable and encourage good employees to leave. When career discussions take place, however, win-win partnerships can be created. This session will highlight the benefits of including career conversations with your direct reports, outline how to plan the discussion, and provide tips and samples of career-related questions to include.

Creating the Optimal Resume

Not all resumes are created equal. The optimal resume for you to use depends on your job target, the amount of experience you have, and whether you are changing careers or staying in the same field. Bring your resume for a quick self-critique based on recommendations, tips and a review check-list provided by the presenter. This workshop will outline the content that you should consider using and excluding, as well as present the pro’s and con’s of several different resume formats. Suggestions and strategies for writing effective cover letters and thank-you notes will also be addressed.

Too Happy to Leave, Too Bored to Stay: Strategies for Enriching Your Current Job

Even great jobs can begin to lose their appeal.  We  may like our our department and co-workers, but feel unchallenged in our work. It’s not always practical or possible to change jobs. The state of the economy and job market, our health and our personal circumstances all play a part in the decision to look for new work. It is always possible, however, to change our attitude towards the work we have.  In this session, participants will discuss strategies for renewing their current jobs. They will identify their work needs and keys to job satisfaction, assess the extent to which their present jobs fill those needs and begin to develop personal job enrichment plans that benefit both themselves and their employers.

What UK Hiring Officials Would Like UK Staff Applicants to Know (Featuring a guest panel of UK Hiring Officials)

Join us to hear a panel of experienced UK hiring officials, from both the Campus and Healthcare Enterprise, share their perspectives on reviewing application materials, selecting candidates for interviews, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions. This session will give participants a view from the ‘other side of the interview table’ and provide valuable insight on applying for positions at UK. Time will be allowed for questions. In celebration of Career Development Month, a box lunch will be provided. Registration is required and limited to the first 30 registrants.
