Changes in HR P&P 84.0 Funeral Attendance Leave

84.1.1.1
An employee shall be allowed funeral attendance leave with pay for attendance to funeral matters up to three (3) working days for the death of a parent, brother, sister (including half brother and half sister), spouse, child, or other relatives for whom the employee is directly responsible.
An employee shall be allowed funeral leave with pay for attendance to funeral matters up to five (5) working days for the death of a parent, brother, sister, spouse, child, (including step- and half-relatives of the same relationship). Will also include any other person who resides in the employee’s household, as well as “in loco parentis” relationships.
84.1.1.1.1
In cases requiring extensive travel time, the employee may be granted additional time off with pay. The total funeral attendance leave with pay shall not exceed five (5) working days.
In cases requiring extensive travel time, the employee may be granted additional time off with pay. The total funeral leave with pay shall not exceed seven (7) working days.
84.1.1.2
In the case of the death of a direct descendant grandparent (of whatever degree), a grandchild, or an in-law relative of the degree indicated in 84.1.1.1, funeral attendance leave with pay may be granted up to one (1) working day.
In the case of the death of a direct descendant grandparent (of whatever degree), a grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or an in-law relative of the degree indicated in 84.1.1.1, funeral leave with pay may be granted up to two (2) working days.
84.1.1.2.1
In cases requiring extensive travel time, the employee may be granted additional time off with pay. The total funeral attendance leave with pay shall not exceed three (3) working days.
In cases requiring extensive travel time, the employee may be granted additional time off with pay. The total funeral leave with pay shall not exceed four (4) working days.
84.1.1.3
An employee may be allowed funeral attendance leave with pay of up to one-half a working day, at the discretion of the department head, to attend the funeral service of other relatives (including, but not limited to aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, etc.), associates or close friends.
An employee may be allowed funeral leave with pay of up to one-half a working day, at the discretion of the department head, to attend to funeral matters of other relatives, associates or close friends.
NOTE: No additional travel time for extensive travel is allocated under 84.1.1.3. Attendance at a funeral requiring extensive travel would be in accordance with HRP&P 80.0 or HRP&P 85.0. No change
Not in present policy. A “day” for funeral leave purposes is defined as the number of hours an employee works in a regularly scheduled work-week, divided by five (5).

NOTE: “In loco parentis” is defined as those who had day-to-day responsibilities to care for and financially support a child or persons who had such responsibility for the employee when the employee was a child. A biological or legal relationship is not necessary.
