Let’s get moving Big Blue!

The UK vs. UofL Challenge runs from April 4 to June 12, 2012. Any UK employee, retiree, and their spouse or sponsored dependent is eligible to participate. The University with the highest average steps per participant WINS a traveling trophy and bragging rights. We won last year. So, let’s keep the trophy in Big Blue territory!

1. REGISTER. Accept the challenge for the University of Kentucky here. (If you are new, simply click the orange "Register" button. Or click "Login" if you registered previously.) You must also submit the AHA Waiver Form (PDF) to 116A Seaton Center or fax to 859-323-4700. For step-by-step registration instructions click here.

2. MOVE! Walk, run, strike a yoga pose, pump iron! Any activity counts! (The Start! Walking website will convert minutes to steps for you.) You get a free t-shirt if you log 425,000 steps by 8 a.m. EST, June 13. The UK employee, retiree, or spouse with the highest number of steps will be involved in our post-challenge recognition.

3. RECORD IT. Login to your MyStart! Online page and save your daily physical activities in your Activity Diary. If you don’t record it, it doesn’t count!

Start! Moving Summer Challenge Success Story

This has been a tremendous amount of fun. I needed some major surgery two weeks ago, and was much better prepared for it because of my walking. I was able to walk right away after surgery, and have built up my walking to where I was prior to surgery. I have healed very nicely, and I attribute it to a strong cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system. Thank you for supporting this.

Can't wait for October!

Michelle Grenier, M.D., Associate Professor of Pediatrics
