Sheila Brothers was elected as the Staff Representative to the Board of Trustees in 2010. She earned her bachelor's degree from UK in 1998 and has been employed by UK since 1993. Having worked in the Department of Communications and Network Systems and the Department of Internal Medicine, Ms. Brothers is currently employed by the Office of the Senate Council. In 2003 Ms. Brothers was the first woman elected as Chair of UK's Staff Senate, and during her term, she institutionalized the regular inclusion of rank-and-file staff employees on a variety of campuswide committees. She has served UK via a number of campuswide groups, including the Health Benefits Task Force, the Governing Regulations Review Committee, and the Employee Education Program Expansion Committee. She served as a member of the Grievance Panel and led the Flexible Work Arrangements Work Group. She is the youngest staff employee to serve as the Staff Representative to the Board of Trustees.

Ms. Brothers was a volunteer firefighter in her local community from 2001 to 2004 and attended the 2003 State Fire School, completing both the Survival and Rescue classes. Ms. Brothers is also the CEO of Athena Contracting, Inc. She is married to David Brothers, and they have two children, Samantha and David, Jr.
