This was the students’ day, said Karen Badger, PhD, MSW and Vice Dean for the College of Health Sciences.

“This is your day to celebrate your success,” she said.

The scene was the 2024 College of Health Sciences Student Awards, where faculty, staff and friends packed the Karpf Auditorium Thursday to honor dozens of students for their academic success, service and research, among other outstanding qualities.

“You are the leaders, healers and innovators of tomorrow,” said Scott Lephart, PhD and Dean of the College. “I am grateful each of you chose the College of Health Sciences.”

While each department honored students of their own, Ryne Hardesty and Hannah Young were presented the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Service, and Michael Nsoesie was named the recipient of the Marie C. Vittetoe Award for Excellence in Service to the Community.

Claire Gulley received the Maurice A. Clay Award, Emma Pastirik was named Ambassador of the Year, and Natalie Eastone was named Peer Mentor of the Year.

The Robinson Graduate Award for Research Creativity went to Casey Skeens and Nicholas Thomas.

“We have enjoyed teaching you, and in more than one way, you’ve taught us,” Lephart said.

Lephart went on to say how there will never be a time when the world won’t need competent healthcare employees and educators.

“Thank you for fulfilling that need,” he said.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Badger noted the optimism in the room.

“We know, beyond a doubt, the future of healthcare will be in good hands,” she said. “You are the pride of this College.”

She also reminded the students that — even with graduation looming — to continue to utilize the help the faculty can provide. And, above all, to take time to enjoy these accomplishments.

“Celebrate the many successes you experience,” she said. “And we look forward to seeing what the future holds.”
