Office of the Dean

Students, Faculty and Staff,

Greetings. I hope you’re all staying well.

Amazingly, we’re already nearing mid-Febraury. I hope this new year is continuing to be gracious and kind.

Once again, I wanted to draw your attention to our celebration of Black History Month. Perhaps you’ve already seen some of our stories honoring our amazing African-American students and alumni and how they’re changing the world for the better.

Students, Faculty and Staff,

I always say that I feel there is no better place to work on campus than the College of Health Sciences. One of the reasons I feel this way? Because of the way our faculty, staff and students honor and celebrate important times throughout the year.

Afterward, most everyone agreed: The room smelled like peanut butter.

And it felt really, really good.

On Tuesday, CHS faculty and staff came together in The Commons to make 187 sack lunches and 53 additional sandwiches, for the Lexington Hope Center’s HopeMobile, which provides help with food, clothing and healthcare to those in need.

Students, Faculty and Staff,

Welcome back.

I hope all of you are rested, motivated and ready to take on this new year. I was thinking just the other day about how, one year ago, I looked toward 2022 with promise and wonder. Recently, I did the same with 2023.

Friends and family came out to join us for Winter Wonderland with the Wildcat on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. at UK's Kroger Field at the President's Pavilion.

We all got some hot cocoa and donuts, and a photographer took pictures with all of us, the Wildcat and Scratch.

Here are the photos!

Allison Rulen says she’s always wanted to do something in healthcare — something scientific, she says — and she always loved the University of Kentucky.

The following material was prepared and circulated by Dr. Freddie Fu, Chair, Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC, as a tribute to the partnership between the University of Kentucky and Pitt.

Out of all the speeches the new students heard during their last week before classes, maybe it was Alumni Relations Director Caroline Arthur’s message that brought out the most feelings.

“As soon as you start your journey,” she told them, “you’re a member of Big Blue Nation. Take advantage of every opportunity.”
