It was certainly true Friday in the College of Health Sciences. But in this case, the CHS Office of Student Affairs left them wanting S'mores.

Jamie Suhr came all the way from the West Coast to spend his first day in Physical Therapy school in the College of Health Sciences Monday.

Suhr, a 29-year-old native of Boise, Idaho, attended his first class — physiology — and he came away impressed.

Allison Rulen says she’s always wanted to do something in healthcare — something scientific, she says — and she always loved the University of Kentucky.

The 2022 CHS Student Awards was a feel-good, end-of-the-year celebration of achievement held in the Worsham Cinema in the Gatton Student Center.

"Today is about our students," CHS Dean Scott Lephart, PhD, told the crowd. "This is an exciting time to celebrate."

Some of the professors could barely hold back their tears. Then again, others didn't hold back at all. 

That was the vibe at the 2022 College of Health Sciences Student Awards ceremony Tuesday.

When 29-year-old Alyaa Zagzoog, from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was looking for a university to attend for graduate school, she had a checklist of things in her mind; the perfect place would meet each item on that list.

The university needed to have a lot of native English speakers. But it needed to be in a quiet and affordable area.

Out of all the speeches the new students heard during their last week before classes, maybe it was Alumni Relations Director Caroline Arthur’s message that brought out the most feelings.

“As soon as you start your journey,” she told them, “you’re a member of Big Blue Nation. Take advantage of every opportunity.”
