Alexa Johnson MS, graduate student researcher at the Sports Medicine Research Institute, was one of few chosen to represent the University of Kentucky at the Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering Workshop, sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities. This event will be held March 18th-21st  in Washington DC.She will learn about federal funding, appropriations, science policy and science communication.

The stereotype that military veterans are war-haunted, depressed or even violent belies the quieter reality that millions of veterans thrive in civilian life.

"Veterans are generally dependable, committed, self-sufficient and able to perform successfully under stressful conditions. Sometimes it just takes a little community-building to dispel the preconceived notions," said Maj. Troy Kenning, Operations Officer, Detachment 290 for the University of Kentucky.

It was not a covert military campaign overseas, but a grueling military exercise testing physical athleticism, mental sharpness and team cooperation under the lights at Kroger Field on Tuesday night.

It’s the fifth race on a beautiful, sunny day at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington and the jockeys are on their mounts up in the gates. The bell rings and the horses spring forward, looking for the perfect spot from which to make their charge. At the second turn, the No. 8 horse stumbles and recovers, but its jockey tumbles to the dirt. He sits for a few seconds, dazed, but then leaps to his feet and scrambles to safety.
