Some of the professors could barely hold back their tears. Then again, others didn't hold back at all.
That was the vibe at the 2022 College of Health Sciences Student Awards ceremony Tuesday.
It was a feel-good, end-of-year celebration of achievement held in the Worsham Cinema in the Gatton Student Center.

When people used to say, “Thank you” to Uriah Carter’s Granny, the elder woman would never say “You’re welcome.”
Instead, she would respond in this way: “I’m just here to serve.” And it made a big difference in Carter’s life.

We are so proud to share the news that Ke’La Porter, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS, who serves as the student member of the DEI Committee, has been selected as the graduate student recipient of the inaugural Leadership Legacy award presented by the MLK Center. The Leadership Legacy Award is given to both an undergraduate and graduate student who embody the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy of thoughtful leadership and trailblazing vision. When 29-year-old Alyaa Zagzoog, from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was looking for a university to attend for graduate school, she had a checklist of things in her mind; the perfect place would meet each item on that list.
The university needed to have a lot of native English speakers. But it needed to be in a quiet and affordable area.

Ke’La Porter is the only student in the College of Health Sciences to be awarded the Lyman T. Johnson Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2021. She received the award for her outstanding research in the Rehabilitation and Health Sciences PhD Program.
