Step-By-Step Process for Hiring Student Employees

1. You complete an online Student Employee Request Form

  • Student Employment offers FREE job advertising on our online posting, which job-seeking UK students search regularly. Students viewing your job online will see a great deal of information about the job, including wage, schedule, required skills, etc.
  • Using our service does not commit you to hire our referrals; you retain the hiring decision.
  • Once you have posted a particular position, we can create a new requisition from the old one, so all you have to do is let us know when you’d like it re-posted!

2. We screen interested students and refer qualified candidates to you

  • Students viewing your job online will find out everything about the job except where the job is located and how to apply. That’s because Student Employment offers FREE screening.
  • A Student Placement Assistant will personally interview every interested student for your job. Only those UK students who are able to work the schedule you specify and have the experience and skills you specify will be referred to you. When we are sure a student meets your standards, we will let them know how to contact you – in the way that you specify! The result? You end up with a pool of job candidates who you know already meet the qualifications you are seeking!

3. You choose and hire the successful candidate/s

  • Student Employment is not a hiring service. You will maintain control of hiring and paying your Student Employment referral. On campus departments without a student wage line may use Student Employment to find a student, but still hire the student through Temporary Employment.

4. You provide us with data to keep Student Employment free

Student Employment is funded in part by a grant, which stipulates that we must collect hiring information. Please help us keep this great service FREE by supplying the following information when you have hired a Student Employment referral:

- Your name/business
- Student’s name
- Start date
- Average hours/week
- Hourly wage

You can complete an easy Tell Us If You Hired A Student online form to submit this information.

Please also keep us up-to-date when you would like to remove your job from our posting, so that we do not mislead interested students.
