Legal Planning

Allison Connelly, UK Law Professor and Director of the UK Legal Clinic

February 12, 2015

Allison Connelly joined us to discuss the necessary legal documents we all need. When an older loved one becomes unable to speak for themselves, we want to make sure their wishes regarding their finances, health care, long-term care, and end-of-life care will be honored. We also want the same thing for ourselves. Professor Connelly explained what documents are needed to ensure that we are ready to best enter this stage of our lives. This Lunch & Learn was recorded.

Older adults have special physical, emotional and social needs. Georgia Swank, from The Ridge, discussed how these needs and mental health align. Coping with change, stress, death, depression, memory problems, and anxiety are just some of the concerns our older adults have. Emotional problems may occur for the first time in an older adult who is suffering from chronic pain, heart disease, diabetes, or other medical disorders. Understanding how coping with health and function changes can affect our older loved ones and give us insight into how we can be better caregivers. This Lunch & Learn was held as part of May is Mental Health Month
