Program Overview

Summary of the Scientific Program

The symposium will begin on Saturday June 4th at 5:30 PM with the welcome address, followed by the keynote address at 5:45 PM (45 minutes).The co-chairs will host a welcome reception and buffet dinner for all the participants.

The plenary symposia will take place during the mornings and afternoons on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday.On Tuesday, the symposium will be held in the morning and the participants will have an opportunity explore the Traverse City and other social activities in the afternoon and evening.

State-of-the-Art Lectures (45 minutes) will be presented on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.As nidoviruses are part of a larger universe of viruses, we will invite a keynote speaker and four state-of-the-art speakers, who will each address a topic that should be of interest to the nidovirus community at large.Speakers will be chosen from experts in the U.S. and around the world, but recognizing cost constraints.

The number of sessions and presentations for this symposium was based on previous Nidovirus Symposia.There will be 8 plenary sessions, each comprising 2 to 3 hours.The plenary sessions will be focused on following topics:

  • Virus attachment, entry and genome uncoating
  • Virus replication and assembly
  • Structures and functions of nonstructural proteins
  • Virus host interactions and pathogenesis
  • Viral immune response
  • Epidemiology, evolution and emerging viruses
  • Vaccines and antivirals
  • Diagnostics and disease control
