1. Known fields
• Remaining oil in place is from summing TORIS field data
• Tar sand is from Tar-Sands Resources of Western Kentucky by Martin C. Noger
• Devonian shale gas is from unpublished monte carlo resource estimate by Nuttall
2. Speculative
• Coalbed methane was estimated assuming 12.8 billion metric tonnes of coal in place (WKY 6, 7, 9, 11, and 13 and EKY Fire Clay, Upper Elkhorn 3, and Lower Elkhorn), methane content 120 scf/ton and a recovery factor of 50%

• Cambrian natural gas estimate is from the USGS Assessment of Undiscovered Oil and Gas Resources of the Appalachian Basin Province, 2002 (Conasauga-Rome/Conasauga Total Petroleum System, Rome Trough Assessment Unit). Adjustment made for area of Rome Trough in Kentucky.
• Other oil. Ad hoc estimate made by Nuttall, assuming remaining oil in place in all fields is 2 billion barrels and TORIS accounts for 1.32 billion then that leaves 0.68 billion unaccounted for. nb: The 2 billion figure is completely arbitrary and conservative, but reasonable.
