Leading Counties in Oil and Gas Production


In 1997, Union County, western Kentucky, produced 425 thousand barrels of oil, mostly from the Mississippian age Chester sandstones and carbonates. Historically, Henderson County, western Kentucky, has produced a cumulative total of more than 107 million barrels of oil. In 1997, Pike County, eastern Kentucky, produced 29.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas, mostly from the Devonian Ohio (black) Shale.
