Our Criminal Justice program is built upon a dynamic curriculum that goes beyond a surface-level understanding to delve deep into the underlying cultural, economic, and political connections with social harm, crime, and systems of social control. By exploring these complex issues, we will prepare our students to think critically, analyze situations, and develop innovative solutions to the challenges facing our society today.

Expect to not only explore the historical and current evolution of the criminal justice system in the American Criminal Justice System (CJ 312) but also put widely used concepts to practice solving some of the world’s toughest moral dilemmas in Application of Criminal Justice Theory (CJ 431) and Ethics in Criminal Justice (CJ 419).  

 

Discover the effects of trauma on a victim’s brain in Understanding the Impact of Trauma (SW 510) and gain a behind-the-scenes perspective of every true-crime documentary you’ve seen or podcast you’ve listened to in courses like Forensic Science on Television (CHE 250), Forensic Interviewing (CJ 535) and Forensic Investigations (CJ 238).

How can a degree in criminal justice help advance my career?

A degree in criminal justice will equip you to serve your community and advance your career. Law enforcement, courts, and corrections are working together to decrease crime, seek justice, support and advocate for victims, and rehabilitate those in the legal system.  

A degree in criminal justice can help you begin a criminal justice career and help with promotion and advancement opportunities as most leadership positions in the criminal justice field require at least an undergraduate degree. 

Can I complete a criminal justice degree online?

Yes, the University of Kentucky College of Social Work offers a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Science in Criminal Justice as fully online degree programs.  

 

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice are also available on campus.
