How to Apply
Candidates for enrollment must meet Departmental requirements for graduate study, which are governed by the rules of the UK Graduate School. Enrollment is open to qualified applicants with an undergraduate degree in mining engineering or other engineering and science fields. Normally, it is expected that applicants will have graduated from an engineering program accredited by ABET. For applicants from non-U.S. universities, from related but non-engineering disciplines, and from institutions that do not have accredited engineering programs, an assessment will be made of the comparability of educational background to that prescribed, and appropriate remedial course work established as a provision for admission. A grade point average of 3.20/4.00 is normally required on all undergraduate work for applicants to the MHS program. MHS applicants must also have a combined score on the verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in excess of 307. Scores on the analytical portion are also considered. Additional information can be found at http://gradschool.uky.edu/application-process.
The Mining Health and Safety training program is available to domestic students seeking MS or PhD degrees in Mining Engineering. All applications for graduate study at the University of Kentucky Graduate School must be submitted on-line. We are now part of the Hobsons Apply Yourself Application Network, a system used by over 700 colleges and universities that provides an opportunity to submit all Graduate School and program requirements in one application including letters of recommendation. Currently the fee for domestic applicants is $65.00. Please note that the application cannot be submitted without payment of this fee.
Students who are interested in the Mining Health and Safety program, but would like more information about it before applying, should contact Dr. Joseph Sottile at email@example.com. Please include “CARERC Mining Health and Safety Program” in the email subject line.
