(16 of 38) Low Power of Parotid Gland This is a section through a parotid gland. Note the lobules (A), connective tissue septae (B), vessels (C) and ducts (D). The glandular tissue appears rather homogeneous except for light spots scattered here and there. The parotid gland secretions in "resting" conditions account for only about 25% of the saliva produced. During maximum stimulation (eating steak), the parotid glands secrete about twice the amount secreted by the submandibular glands. At rest the parotid secretes about 1/3rd the amount of the submandibular gland. |
