(34 of 38) Higher Power of Palatine Glands This is a coronal section through a molar (on the left) and the adjacent hard palate (on the right). Note the palatine glands (A). They are purely mucous-secreting glands. Identify the abundant adipose tissue (B) in the palate. Compare the connective tissue papillae in the gingiva (C) with those of the palate (D). The large red mass in the lower left is the dentin (E) of the tooth. The alveolar bone (F) of the tooth socket is also evident. Note the fibers of the periodontal ligament (G) anchoring the tooth within the socket.
