(6 of 16) Principal Fibers of PDL This is a section through the labial mucosa (A) and labial gingiva (B). Look closely for the gingival fibers (C) anchored to the cementum and the gingiva. Alveolar crest (D) fibers are also distinct, their fibers passing at an angle from the crest of the alveolar bone upward to anchor in the cementum. Lower down the root, oblique fibers (E) are seen. They pass from the alveolar bone (F) downward to anchor in the cementum.
