Mineralized Deposits in the PDL

Occasionally a mineralized island of tissue (A) can be found in the periodontal ligament (B). An example is seen here lying close to the alveolar bone (C). Cellular debris is thought to serve as a focal point for initiation of mineral-ization. These structures are similar to pulp stones or denticles.
