Despite how much I learned from this
class through our discussions, I think that the most beneficial part of this
class was our final paper. For this
paper, we were to address every section of Christianity and write everything
that we believed about that topic and why.
Topics included the doctrine of man, the doctrine of God, the doctrine
of the Son, the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, the doctrine of the future, the
doctrine of the Bible, and so on. This
paper proved to be challenging because I had never before sat down and thought
about why I believed what I did, especially in each of these subjects. I also realized that I didn’t always know
what I believed. Therefore, this
assignment allowed me to really evaluate my beliefs and taught me why I believe
what I do. The goal of every course
should be to guide the student through his learning, but ultimately allow him
to think for himself. If the course is
taught well, by the end of it, the student should have a clear understanding of
his view as well as other viewpoints.
This is exactly what my theology teacher did. Through each lecture and discussion, he was
allowing us time to think and decide for ourselves, knowing for the final we
would need to come to a conclusion. This
was his way of testing whether we had been thinking critically. To page 8
