People ask me all the time if I know all my relatives. I’m saddened to say that I don’t know a lot of them, but it is easy to lose track after six brothers, three sisters, two stepbrothers, three in-laws, three nieces, forty aunts and uncles, and over a hundred first cousins. Let’s face it, I have a huge family tree, but it extends much more than that. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was related to you. However, there is one of my distant relatives that is shoved aside and goes unrecognized by many people. I haven’t figured out why this is so, she is absolutely beautiful and she can even speak sign language. Why wouldn’t anyone want to claim her? I’ll tell you why, because I just described a chimp! It’s true. I, along with all humans, come from the same distant ancestor as chimps do. Many people don’t believe that humans evolved rather they believe we were created by a higher being. Because of their beliefs they are trying to keep evolution out of the classrooms, which in return is depriving children of the education that they deserve.

Growing up, my parents wanted to give me every advantage that they could. They chose to send me to a Catholic school from first grade all the way until my senior year in high school. Because of their decision I have received an outstanding education in mathematics, English, history, and foreign languages, but the two most important were science and religion.

RELIGION VS. SCIENCE

Religion is the most important thing in my life;however I am intrigued by science, especially evolution. I was fortunate that the schools that I attended had biology teachers that taught me the basics of evolution and how humans, like most animals, have evolved over time. I was never forced by my science teachers to believe in evolution, they simply taught what the world knows about it thus far. On the other side my religion teachers increased my knowledge regarding God that I believe in, through which I have learned that my church along with others in fact accept the theory of evolution. Because of all these I feel that I am truly blessed.
